Dr. Imes Chiu
Dr. Imes Chiu is an employee of Cubic Global Defense and serves as the Applied Research Lead at the Center for Excellence in Disaster Management and Humanitarian Assistance. She collaborates with academic, governmental, military, international and nongovernmental organizations to analyze, develop and deliver studies, training courses, programs and plans and assessments of operational and functional capabilities in disaster management. She established and developed the academic and governmental collaborative partnerships at CFE-DM and leads project conceptualization, testing, application and implementation of CFE-DM disaster management technologies.
With 10 years of teaching experience at Cornell University, the University of Washington and Ateneo de Manila University, Dr. Chiu served as a social scientist at the Department of Defense conducting sociocultural, anthropologic and ethnographic studies for the Special Operations Forces community. Her first book on U.S.-Philippine military history garnered the 2008-2009 Global Filipino Literary Award for Nonfiction and was recommended by CHOICE, a premier scholarly research journal used by academics and librarians. Prior to joining the public sector, she managed business process reengineering projects in the manufacturing sector and worked as an international training consultant for 36 countries in the hotel and restaurant industry.
Dr. Chiu completed her Ph.D. in science and technology studies at Cornell University. She speaks five languages fluently.
